Need a hand with your supports?

How funding periods work
From 19 May 2025, new and reassessed NDIS plans split each funding component into funding periods. Instead of the whole budget being available on day one, a portion is released at the start of each period.
- Periods run from your plan start date, not the calendar month. A plan that starts on the 19th has periods that start on the 19th.
- Most supports are released every 3 months. Home and Living supports are usually released monthly. Some capital items, such as assistive technology, may be released in full at the start.
- You can only spend what has been released — in the current period or earlier ones. You cannot draw on a future period early.
- Unspent funding rolls over to the next period within the same plan. It does not carry into a new plan.
- Different components can have different periods in the same plan. Track each one separately.
Your plan document and the my NDIS app show the exact amount released in each period. This calculator splits each amount equally by default; use Match my plan on any funding line to enter the exact figures.
How the weekly amount is worked out
The calculator counts the actual days from the date you are calculating from to the end of the current period (both days included), and divides what is available by that number, times seven. So $12,000 available with 30 days left is $2,800 a week. It also shows the figure for stretching everything that is left across the whole plan, which is usually lower and a safer long-term pace.
The weekly figure is a budgeting guide to keep spending even, not a limit set by the NDIA. Spending more in one week is fine as long as the period's released funding covers it.
Common questions
- Where do I find my funding periods?
- In your plan document, in the my NDIS participant portal or the my NDIS app. Your plan manager or support coordinator can also see them.
- What if I run out before the next release?
- Supports can't be claimed against funding that hasn't been released yet. If your circumstances have changed, you or your support coordinator can ask the NDIA about early release or a plan reassessment.
- Does the calculator know my plan's exact amounts?
- No — it only knows what you type in. It assumes an equal split across periods unless you enter the exact per-period amounts from your plan with Match my plan.
- Is my information stored?
- No. Everything is calculated in your browser and nothing is sent to us or anyone else. Use Copy link to share your figures; the link itself carries the numbers.
- Can I use it for someone else's plan?
- Yes. Support coordinators and plan managers can use it for any plan. Nothing identifies the participant unless you type a name into the funding line, so you can leave names out.
